Blynman Restoration

The Blynman Schoolhouse, built in 1892, had served Magnolia residents for well over 100 years as a school and later as multi-purpose center. But in the mid-2000s, the City of Gloucester considered razing the building, which in recent years went unused and began deteriorating. In January 2013, under the leadership of lifelong resident and Magnolia Historical President, Lisa (Peek) Ramos, we purchased the schoolhouse from the City of Gloucester for $1,000

Our Board soon thereafter launched the Blynman Schoolhouse Acquisition & Restoration Project, which detailed plans to restore the schoolhouse to its former glory. The goal was two-part: saving this Victorian-era schoolhouse from demolition and creating a safe, permanent home for Magnolia's historical documents and artifacts - an apt tribute to the building's past.
